Don Quixote

One of the symbolic paintings by Manos Faltaits, depicting Miguel de Cervantes' literary hero, Don Quixote. In 2007, when plans for the creation of an enormous industrial wind power farm were announced, threatening to destroy a vital eco-cultural landscape in southern Skyros, Manos and Anastasia Faltaits spearheaded the extensive struggle of the local community to cancel this project of pharaonic proportions. With a series of sketches, Manos voiced and illustrated thethe fierce opposition of the Skyrian people to this impending catastrophe. One of the figures he used was Don Quixote, whom he depicted in different versions in his painting. For Manos, Don Quixote was the embodiment of the man who insists on fighting for his ideals, even under extremely adverse circumstances.
