Water Dispenser

A glazed ceramic water dispenser, made in Skyros in the 20th century, by an unknown maker, depicting a shepherd with his goats.  Skyros, known for its ceramics – the so-called "Skyrian" – began to experiment with copies of imported ceramics that adorned the shelves of the houses of the upper class only in the late 20th century. Until then, these ceramic objects came from other regions of the world, such as Italy, Spain, Asia Minor, the Netherlands, England, China, etc., and arrived on the island mainly through piracy and trade.
The first Skyrians who started experimenting with this new style of pottery were the Nikolaou and Papastathis families and the first workshops were located in the area of Magazia.
