Proclamation of the Society of Friends

This manuscript is one of the proclamations of the Greek Revolution, which was compiled and distributed secretly to those initiated into the Society of Friends (Filiki Eteria). It is a call for Greeks to join the War of Independence of 1821.
It is one of the many documents relating to the activities of the Society of Friends and its members which were discovered in the archives of John and George Zanos (or Tzanos), who were ancestors by marriage of the Faltaits family. It is believed that the two brothers were part of the Society of Friends and held positions of high importance within the inner circle of the national benefactor, John Varvakis. Georgios Tzanos, after the failure of the revolution in the Danubian Principalities, came to Greece on a mission of the Society of Friends carrying letters to the dignitaries of Psara and other Greeks. Among these documents was the proclamation of the Revolution.
