Saint Meletius Galesiotes

A manuscript of the 18th century (possibly 1784), written by a monk named Meletius who cloistered himself in Skyros. The first part of the book presents the life of Saint Meletius Galesiotes (1207–1283), and the author's exhortation to the people of Skyros to establish the celebration of the Saint. The second part contains Saint Meletius’s service. 
Saint Meletius Galisiotis, who had been exiled to Skyros by emperor Michael VIII Palaiologos for opposing his pro-unionist policy, was one of one of the monks and Saints who practiced asceticism in Skyros from time to time. Other well-known Saints were Saint Athanasios the Athonite (920-1003), founder of monasticism on Mount Athos, and Saint Nicodemus the Athonite (1749-1809), one of the leading figures of Kollyvades Movement.  
Skyros was a center of a religious pilgrimage for many years, due to the icon of Saint George – patron saint of the island – which was considered miraculous.
